Back from Japan

Sushi Dinner! — Photo by Daigo.

I just came back from two week vacation from Japan. It was nice to see all my family and relatives again. We ate very well. I have documented the food I ate in a flickr album. It makes a pretty awesome slide show.

We were in Sapporo one day, my son was asleep in a hotel room with my parents watching him, my wife and I stopped in to a music store and we heard a song on Usen cable radio. It was a sort of a mellow song with simple guitar and violin (or keyboard?) with a male volalist singing in English. Both of us immediately liked the song. I asked the store clerk who it was. They told me that it was a band called Monkey Majik so I bought their latest album Sora hao Marude (”Sky is just like…”). Only the song was not on it. I have no idea what the song is or who even sings that song (It doesn’t look like it is them).

However, now that I am back in US and listening to that CD we got, I actually really like it. They are really interesting. The two singer/guitarists are brothers from Canada. They can mix it up and do songs like Picture Perfect, … pretty good. I really like it, and I had my iPod headphone all day. I could see me singing their songs in Karaoke bar… (it’s been ages since I last went to Karaoke bar…) As I was searching the web for that mysterious song, I have discovered that iTunes store actually has decent selection of J-Pop available for purchase from within US. I have not listened to J-Pop in some time…

UPDATE: My wife found the song. It is “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s from Chicago and I guess the song has been out for a last couple of years. It is interesting that it was playing a lot in Japan. We heard it in more than two places, one place (a bar called Christmas Tree… I don’t know why they are called that either) played it more than twice while we were eating. Needless to say that I purchased the song via iTunes right away…
