Make History Tuesday: Vote for Sam Yoon

Tomorrow is the election day. And you should vote for Sam Yoon for one of the Boston City Council At-Large seats, and here is my version of why. You can expect him to make the right decisions for Boston Public Schools with his public school teaching experience. As a housing advocate at Asian Community Development Corporation, he has worked on low-cost housing issues in Chinatown, he knows how to develop Boston Neighborhood for people (he has economic development graduate degree from Harvard’s JFK School of Government). He is intelligent but not intimidating, and nice, honest, and sincere guy. And nice “side-effect” of electing this well qualified Korean-American candidate, you’ll be part of Boston history: He is the first Asian-American ever to run for the Boston City Council.

The Boston Globe had a profile article about him. And according to Boston Herald’s local politics blog, polls shows Sam at 31% and second place… but with 4.9 percent margin of error, it really doesn’t mean much. (That is why you need to vote for him!)

Taken from the Globe’s endorsement:

Sam Yoon of Dorchester has captured attention as the city’s first Asian-American to run for the council. If elected, the candidate might even serve as a bridge between white and other minority councilors, who often vote in blocs. But Yoon, 35, offers more than a new civic identity. As a housing specialist in Chinatown, he understands the intricacies of downtown commercial development and how it can be leveraged to subsidize inexpensive housing units in Boston. As the father of a public school student, Yoon knows the importance of maintaining steady educational progress. Yoon wants to focus on citywide challenges, such as improving business districts near MBTA stations. The council would be stronger for his presence.
