JEdit and Konqueror

I’ve always used Mac to do web design. True there is no PhotoShop, Fireworks or Flash for linux, but I am talking about even the coding part of it. At work, I am using BBEdit 8 and Transmit 3, and very happy with it. So naturally, I was thinking my next laptop that I will get is a Mac, they are so damn expensive and I can’t possibly afford it.

Then I discovered a killer combination for Linux. KDE’s konqueror is much, much more than web browser (I thought that was what this app was), it does ftp, ssh, sftp, smb, and nfs. It is actually awesome. Very configurable, pretty easy to use and so far (knock on the wood) pretty reliable. And I found this java based editor called JEdit. It’s slick and very functional application. Now with those two app, in adition to all my other linux apps (like emacs). I could get an super fast laptop linux machine for $1500. Mmmmm.

Related or unrelated: I realized I used over $600 for this upcoming season of Red Sox game’s ticket… I could have bought 1.42GH Mac Mini… which would have been faster, smaller. and quieter than the 450 mhz G4 tower I have… But then again, I hear one of my ticket, April 13th game vs. the evil empire bad guys, might be Curt Schilling’s first game. Compare that with Mac Mini.
