Wireless-less-ness
I was very unhappy with the RCN cable… it cut off and on for no real reason. I called tech and they came out… he checked the cable that is coming in from the poll out side, tighten and replaced couple of wires and A-HA! now I get 2.24MBPS Down and 571KBPS Up, constantly. Pretty happy about it.
Next step is that I am still wireless-less, meaning, uh, wired with my Compaq laptop Armada E500. I just hooked up SMC 2804WBR as a router. Figured out how to use it as virtual server, so I can keep using DYNSNS service (RCN does block port 80, though). I have 2 wireless cards. SMC EZConnect 2.4Ghz 11Mbps Wireless Cardbus Adapter (SMC2635W) and U.S. Robotics 8002.11g Wireless Turbo PC Card (Model 5410), which apparently works only with $30 Linuxant…
My other choice to go Fedora Core 2 and see if new and improved Kernel 2.6 can detect it… but then I have to go through the whole deal of upgrading and everything else. Maybe I should think about setting up a rsync server so it’s always backed up/easy to upgrade this machine. Man, this never ends.
