Booing A-ROD
I lost my voice. As we sit in section 27 (third base dug out side) we figured out that A-Rod makes roughly $50,000 every at bat. (Math: $25,000,000 divided by 500 at bat a year) So lets cap what he did. His first $50K, he ground out to Pokey Reese. His second $50K he chased a bad pitch. Strike out. Fans get up with loud cheer, A-Rod would not look at us. His third $50K, he hits week (?) grounder to Pokey, he bubbled it a bit, throw to the first was… safe (!). First of all, I thought it was out, and second of all, they should scored it E6 not H. But after Giambi walked, the Yankee dugout outs double steal, with A-ROD was caught stealing by Doug Mirabelli! His last $50K of the day was line out to Mueller. Fans (including me) booed him every at bat, LOUD. Yes, I know he made a lot of effort to become a Red Sox in the off-season, I know Gene Orza broke the deal. So what. He did everything in his power to become a Yankee, and he got it. Do we care that he wanted to become a Red Sox? Only thing I care is that he plays for the bad guys. and I don’t like him.
Things of note at the first Fenway experience of 04:
- The new third base line area was very nice. As good as advertised.
- Made me laugh: When Giambi/Sheffield at bats, people chants “BALCO~. BALCO~”
- As I kept score, I really missed Hood Milk scoring thing that used to display how to score, like “6-3″ or “E6 (Derek Jeter’s error)”. Now there is no Hood sign, but a huge “Budweiser” sign. As if to say “Screw milk, drink beer.” :)
