We saw The Last Samurai and it was what I thought it would be like and much much more. I was afraid I had expected too much, but it was really good. “Katsumoto” played by Ken Watanabe, is not a real figure in the history but is loosely based on Takamori Saigo’s life. The Emperor Meiji and Meiji Restoration has always fascinated me. I even have some woodcut printings from that era, maybe someday I’ll scan it in.
