NetScape No More

We went to a wedding in Vermont this weekend. It was Great. Stayed at a very cool B&B with bike trails. If I’d known, I would have brought my bike… well, mine is probably not good for off road. Congrats to Greg and Rachel! Here are some photos.

Wow. Netscape web browser is no more. Since, its parent company AOL made a deal with Microsoft in May, I guess it is not too surprising for some. As a Linux user, I am more concerned about future of Mozilla, which is now a non-profit organization, named Mozilla Foundation. Geez. The Web Standards Project has a very good article with bunch of useful links and explanations by
Chris Kaminski.

Aside from IE, the only browser brand with any recognition outside Web developer circles is Netscape. With the Netscape browser dead people — including some Web developers — may conclude there is no viable alternative to IE. Worse, many may decide that Web standards are synonymous with ‘works in IE/Win’.
It’s up to us (and you) to ensure that doesn’t happen.

scary thought, isn’t it?
