X vs. XP

How to dance properly
I have figured out how to file share between Mac OS X and Win XP.

  • You have user name and password for your XP (if not right click on user and do change password)
  • Turn on “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks” in “Local Area Connection Properties” under Control Panel -> Network Connections
  • While you are there, click on “Support” tab and write down the IP Address
  • Make sure “Shared Documents Folder” is shared in My Computer. Right click and choose Sharing Tab and under Network sharing and security click “Share this folder on the network” Share name is “SharedDocs” by default
  • On your Mac OS X computer go to finer -> Go -> Connect to Server
  • In “Address” type in “smb://<IP Address>/SharedDocs
  • Enter User name and Password, I don’t think it is cASe SenSITive. (and don’t worry about Workgroup/Domain)
  • Voila, SHAREDDOCS shows up on your Mac’s desktop. Drag in/out all you want.
