Ichiro, my hero

“Ichiro reveals himself in TV interview: Ordinary and extraordinary” was a Seattle Times story by Brad Lefton that ran on February 20, 2011 (over a month ago) but was such a great story that it deserves to be revisited by this blog. Ichiro was also in the news more recently that he donated 100 million [...]

Earthquake/Tsunami and Japanese Baseball Players

It has been over a week, but I personally still can’t get over the shock of the national emergency caused by last week’s massive earthquake and tsunami in Northeast Japan. But as I follow my baseball news, I have noticed a lot of stories about what baseball players are doing about this terrible natural disaster. [...]

Projections for JapaneseBallPlayers, 2011

The baseball season is almost here. Every year, there are a lot of places that publish projections for each of MLB players. Fangraphs.com, one of my favorite baseball sites of all-time, does great job compiling the projections into their player pages. There are projections from Bill James and his Baseball Info Solutions company (cost $10), [...]

Kokoyakyu

If you haven’t, watch this movie called Kokoyakyu: High School Baseball. It was directed by Kenneth Eng and written/produced by Alex Shear. Was aired on PBS in 2006 as part of its “Point of View” series. To those kids, baseball is life the Universe and everything. (I am reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy [...]

All Look Same… Take THREE. (What I tweeted: Week ending Nov. 28)

Take one, take two, and now this. We had this happen before when Akinori Iwamura signed with Tampa Bay Rays, and Kosuke Fukudome filed for free agency, but this image on the left with caption describing Tsuyoshi Nishioka, who was just posted by Chiba Lotte Marines and bid won by Minessotta Twins, is actually not [...]

Japanese pitchers in MLB by ERA+ (What I tweeted: Week of Nov. 14)

Here’s a list of all pitchers born in Japan to pitch in Major League Baseball (min. 10 IP) sorted by ERA+. ERA+ is 100*[lgERA/ERA], Adjusted to the player’s ballpark(s). So anyone who has better than 100 ERA+ is above average pitcher in that league. Interesting that top 4 pitcher, Takashi Saito, Akinori Otsuka, Hideki Okajima, [...]

Filipino Baseball Players

The San Francisco Giants became baseball’s world champion in 2010, as they beat the Texas Rangers behind the young pitching of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner. Little known fact is that Game 5 winner Tim Lincecum is part Filipino. I just came across this info, I thought I’d post it here… in the [...]

Funniest Simpsons episode, ever.

I’ve been involved with the the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Boston Chapter (if you have facebook, please “Like” the link!) as a member volunteer and organizing an event this coming Saturday. So I sent out a email notice to my friends about it, and a friend send me a message: Nooo!!!! Did you [...]

MLB going YouTube in Japan?

Apparently in Japan, you can watch highlights of MLB baseball games on YouTube. The URL for MLB.jp channel is youtube.com/mlbglobal, but when accessed from US, you get “This channel is not available in your country.” Bummer. Of course, there are ways, but you didn’t hear that from me. ;) Speaking of YouTube and Japanese baseball, [...]
