Twitter updates for July 4th, 2010: Soccer? I’m watching soccer?

Happy 4th of July! Tweets this weeks were actually more about soccer than baseball. For those who know me will tell you, that is just CRAZY. But I did follow Japanese national team for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The Samurai Blue advanced into second round, and lost to Paraguay in the super pressure-packed PK shootout. Further than most (including myself) expected. Great job, Team Japan.

Other Tweet include my discovery that Ray Chang, a Chinese-American middle infielder who played for Chinese national team in 2009 World Baseball Classic, was actually playing for the Boston Red Sox organization. I totally missed his signing!

  • With both China (Ray Chang) & Taiwan (Chih-Hsien Chiang, Che-Hsuan Lin) represented in their roster, I must go up to see @PortlandSeaDogs! #
  • Missed this, reading @PeteAbe's minor league notes, Ray Chang now play for the Sea Dogs, #RedSox AA? He was big hit for 09 WBC Team China. #
  • Hey it's Yuichi Nishimura of #JPN refereeing match between #NED and #BRA in the #WorldCup Go Japan! (Wait, what?) #
  • @GGMMX I recommend MLB.TV, if you have good net connection. I think they no longer blocks Japan… at least I heard so. Worth looking into. in reply to GGMMX #
  • @schneidermike I love Cap Cod Baseball League! I have caps for couple of teams, Brewster Whitecaps and Orleans Cardinals, I think. in reply to schneidermike #
  • @GGMMX No broken foot & will miss 6 weeks. Varitek latest to join, Pedroia, Martinez, Beckett, Ellsbury, Delcarmen, Hermida and Lowell on DL in reply to GGMMX #
  • Kevin Cash's name is confusing on transaction wire. All joking aside "Et tu, Jason Varitek?" #RedSox catchers for now: Cash & Gustavo Molina #
  • Very nice blog post by @GlobeEricWilbur on #RedSox bullpen. June ERAs: Delcarmen 12.96, Okajima 6.52, Papelbon 5.73 http://bit.ly/bpKlfn #
  • Ahhh, #JPN lost on PK. That is disappointing. I feel bad for Komano, who hit the bar… #WorldCup #
  • I can not take this pressure… This is too much. PK between #PAR and #JPN #
  • @NYYHATER I know nothing about #PAR team so hard to say, but all I can say is #JPN has good PK shooters and Kawashima is a good goalie. in reply to NYYHATER #
  • Oh man. 1st PK shootout of this World Cup is about to happen btwn #PAR and #JPN End of full time, tied 0-0. Eiji Kawashima's time to shine #
  • Go Samurai Blue! #Jpn in extra time still tied 0-0. Almost as excting as 0-0 baseball pitchers duels. Almost. #
  • Wow, they closed Shibuya intrsection of Tokyo in anticipation of #Jpn winning this match. http://twitpic.com/20zt18 via @mitsuya_hirose #
  • Japan is on quite the difensive end of this match. Time of possession 38% Japan and 62% Paraguay according to ESPN Gamecast #JPN #
  • Ouch! Tulio Tanaka. #JPN #
  • OK, so much for me not caring about soccer. I feel like my heart is about to jump out of my mouth watching this match. #jpn #WorldCup #
