I am in Japan. A place I grew up, and using my dad’s Japanese iMac (which I helped him pick it up when I was here 5 years ago… keys are placed differently, takes me a while to find quotation mark, apostrophe, @ sign and control key each time…) to make this post. I am in somewhat of culture shock… which makes me realize I have became American, even though I am still a Japanese citizen. Here is my list of I Am a Japanese School teacher style Japanese Oxymoron:
- Public showing of affection between couples are frowned upon, yet in the magazine stands on the train station or in-train advertisement of weekly tabloids have half-naked big-boob ladies all over?
- A young lady sits in the Yusen Seki (priority seating) on the train. Right above her is a big sign says “Please give those seats for elderly, handicapped, pregnant lady and people with little kids.” She appears to be sleeping, not noticing us with big bags and a sleeping baby in my wife’s arm. Yet when the train stops at her stop, she gets right up and get off the train in no time?
- Pachinko parlor’s are HUGE. Yet people live in the tiniest apartments?
I will post it as I come up with more. It is very ironic that I feel the same about Japan with Azrael (except of course I don’t have Gaijin Smash special power). I must say that food is AWESOME here and I’ve probably have already gained about few kilos while I’m here… I’ve been updating my flickr pages, check it out.
