I found this article in SAMPAN. There is a Korean Weekly newspaper in the town now called “The Boston Korean.” This is great. Congratulations to Myong Chang!
Reading this article made me think of a play I saw a few years ago. I saw a production of “The Sisters Matsumoto” (by Philip Kan Gotanda) at the Huntington Theater in 2000. In the play, the father wants to make an Japanese Newspaper in the US. His son-in-law would make fun of Japanese writing saying “that chicken scratch.” Then by the end, he created half-Japanese and half- English newspaper and he was very happy. There are bunch of Japanese-only publications in Boston. Such as J magazine, Boston Kawaraban, Front line, Takara magazine, Or New York Japion etc. Mostly targeted toward students and doctors/technicians/researchers who do short stint study/laboratory work at area university like MIT or Harvard or area hospitals. Those publications mostly contains more feature type, light, entertainment contents. Now, that is great and I enjoy those publications. But there is no “local issue” driven newspaper for “Japanese Americans.” May be there is no demand. But if anyone wants to start it, please let me know. I’d like to help.

Oh, well, it really is a good news, but I’m surprised that Boston didn’t have one for Korean before. Own news paper for every single community is very important not only for the communication but also for the children in the community who are easily loosing their language and cultural asset.
