(Non-)Progress report of my Mac

So my HD did NOTHING (Black screen), I decided to run a OS X 10.3 installer. Choose Archive Install. And during the installation an error occured. But it lead me to a login screen. and I was able to log in. Cool. I can see all the files and application just where I left them.
But Applications won’t launch, can’t create new folders. I think my hope is to download and istall 10.3.5 combined update, but can’t download anything from other servers or websites. (IO Error: MacOSX10.3.5.dmg Bad file descriptor) I tar.gz’ed the file but still no luck. Trying to backup anything that I can but can’t compress files and to save everything as is is too huge, don’t recognize any cd medium (to read or write) can’t even make new folder. Ugh! So frustrated.

Update: Found an awesome link. Links off of that sites are apple, davespics and westwind. Now I bypassed the frozen white screen with thing spinning, thanks to those sites.
