I am not treky but this is awesome. In Deep Space 9, there is a guy, captain Benjamin Sisko, who loves baseball, even though by then the sport is no longer played. And he owns a rookie card of his favorite player, a Japanese Shortstop (later converted to third base) for London Kings, named Harmon “Buck” Bokai.
Buck Bokai
From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.
Buck Bokai was a human baseball player in the 21st century, considered by many to be one of the greats. Playing for the London Kings, Bokai began his career at shortshop, his rookie year being 2015. (DS9: “Past Tense, Part I”)Sometime later, he switched to the third baseman position, and in 2026, Bokai broke the record for most hits in consecutive games in a season, which had previously been set by Joe DiMaggio in 1941. (TNG: “The Big Goodbye; DS9: “If Wishes Were Horses“)
Bokai remained with the Kings throughout his career, until 2042, when the team made it to the final World Series. With the decline of the sport, only 300 spectators attended the last game of the series, which was won through a home run, hit by Bokai. (DS9: “If Wishes Were Horses”)
Buck Bokai was played by Keone Young. A depiction of Bokai was seen on a trading card owned by Benjamin Sisko in “The Storyteller”. Modeler Greg Jein was used as the subject, although his image was replaced after Young’s appearance.
Pretty interesting that they chose Japanese (well, asian anyway) to break DiMaggio’s record. BTW congrats to Ichiro who brooke Sisler’s record!
