Went to see the movie Adaptation. Different, makes you want to talk about it after the movie, but I dunno if I tell everyone to go see it tomorrow. I had to do internet search to make sure, but Donald Kaufman doesn’t exist (even though he gets a screen play credit for this movie). I think because Being John Malkovich was sooo good, the high expectation kind of ruined it for me. Though I gotta say this movie is one of those that grows on you, as I think of it more now.
If I think about it Susan Orlean’s book is very Non-Hollywood, pretty innocent story about people who are obsessed with the flower, and yet Charlie Kaufman has managed to put sex, violence, guns, car chase, death AND drugs in the movie. He has managed make fun of Hollywood, New Yorker writer type, white-trash in Florida, screen writers, low-self-esteem people, and film industry – even his own job, or himself.
Now, that’s pretty amazing.
